A Winter Carol

A Winter Carol (2001) is a setting from Shakespeare's Love's Labour's Lost. The text is full of vivid winter images and sounds, laced together in a clear and masterful language. Although the melody and harmony are up-to-date, I have retained the bounce and directness of early English carols, especially in the vocal line. Added to this line is an organ texture that furthers the forward motion by using fast notes, abrupt silences, flutey twitterings and injections of its own "merry notes".
