Night-Magic, Confabulated

It was a night-magic, confabulated out of moons and silver, wine and blood, knights and fairies, wind and rivers and forests.
       — Lev Grossman “The Magician King”

Night-Magic, Confabulated (2024) is large-scale sectional work in one movement for organ, inspired by Grossman's haunting description of a mythical spell-world. Indeed, the organ, with its magical colors and wide dynamic range, could be seen as a gateway into the world of fantasy as described by him. The piece’s subtitle, “a collection of conjurings”, alludes to both the sectional nature of the piece and the evocative nature of how the sounds create images in the ear of the listener.
